I didn’t intend to see my former friend with benefits while I was in his hometown.
I was just traveling through, after all. A snowstorm changed that. When the airline employee told me they couldn’t provide a hotel room, I briefly considered sleeping on the airport floor before remembering that there was one warm bed nearby that could definitely accommodate me.
Not bothering to call, I hopped in a cab and gave the driver Mark’s address. Fifteen minutes later I pulled up in front of a small apartment building. Refusing to consider what I would do if Mark wasn’t home, I dragged my suitcase up the steps to his apartment and rang the bell.
After a few minutes with no answer, I turned to walk away. That’s when the door creaked open behind me.
