The sun was bright in the cloudless sky, the ocean sparkled like a field of diamonds, and the sand felt like warm silk under my feet. It was one of those picture-perfect days at the beach resort where I worked as a lifeguard. I stood tall, my bronze skin glistening as I adjusted the whistle strung around my neck.

I climbed up onto my chair and surveyed the area. I was scanning the beautiful vista for any signs of trouble, but fortunately there were none. There was very little of anything going on that day, and I was glad to have an easy shift.
