They say the older you get, the more you see patterns in life. I was just past my mid-20s, hardly a wise old man. But I was also definitely no longer a kid of any sort. I’d lived some. Gone places, done stuff. I felt like I was living a reasonably adventurous, fulfilling life.
But things had started to repeat. I recognized types of people. One personality was sometimes very much like another, so that a new acquaintance would remind me vividly of someone I’d already met. It gave me a kind of blueprint as to what kind of behavior I might expect.
This wasn’t always a bad thing, though it did give me clues as to the sorts of people I should avoid. On happy occasions, like when I met Lori, it was like a beacon in the darkness, lighting the way toward something wonderful.
